There are images that not only tell the story of an era, but bring it back to life. Jim Saah, a photographer from Washington, D.C., was there to document it. With his camera, Saah closely followed a community of young people who, in the 1980s and 1990s, invented a different way of making music, living, and resisting: hardcore punk. Saah photographed Washington D.C. hardcore bands such as Minor Threat, Faith, and Void, but he didn't stop there. He also captured key artists such as Iggy Pop, Sonic Youth, the Ramones, Talking Heads, and Lou Reed. Over the years, his book, In My Eyes, has become a unique testimony to that universe of energy, friendship, and creative tension. In My Eyes is not just a book of photographs. Through the lens of the past, it reminds us of the current and urgent need for alternative communities based on creativity, authenticity, and relationship building. King Koala Press is an independent publishing house dedicated to photography, visual culture, and documenting the international music and urban scene. Born from the encounter between art publishing and the DIY punk spirit, it publishes books that explore the relationship between images, collective memory, and contemporary subcultures. With a curated yet accessible approach, King Koala Press collaborates with photographers, artists, and musicians from around the world, promoting high-quality editions that become true collector's items. In November of 2025, it brought Jim Saah on tour in Italy with the new edition of In My Eyes—his classic photographic reportage on the punk and hardcore scene in Washington, D.C. and beyond—in an updated and expanded version for international audiences. King Koala Press presents the new edition of In My Eyes, Photographs 1982-1997, Jim Saah's photographic book, a milestone in the visual documentation of the Washington D.C. hardcore punk scene, for the first time in Europe. After the success of the original publication with Cabin 1, the work arrives in Europe in a new format: a bilingual (English/ Japanese) volume, compact in size but dense with iconic images. The photographs provide an insider's view of the creative and musical community that defined an independent aesthetic and ethic in the 1980s and 1990s, which is still a source of inspiration today. The book includes exclusive text contributions, including an interview with Ian MacKaye (Minor Threat, Fugazi, Dischord Records), a direct witness and key player in that cultural movement. The publication will be accompanied by a photographic exhibition at Quinta del Sordo, Madrid, from October 15, 2026, to October 23, 2026, featuring a selection of shots spanning four decades of music, friendship, and cultural resistance.
